Concept

Transformation was designed while taking into account the Japanese way of thinking. An existence is established by overlapping an element to another element. A cube — a block that we consider as a base — appears when the two elements are overlapped. This most compact form with two tightly overlapping elements is considered as the original form, or one solid substance. In the process of separating the two elements, it transforms into various formations and shapes. As the one original substance is separated into two pieces, the functionality expands while maintaining the original form. We believe this is the appeal of the style of Transformation.
A cabinet-like, square box-shaped bottom element has two large drawers. An L-shaped thick tabletop, extending in a longitudinal direction, is placed on this bottom element. The tabletop is tightly placed on the cubic bottom cabinet, but is unattached so that the L-shaped tabletop can be extended in any direction. When the L-shaped tabletop is slid sideways, a lower layer tabletop appears on the bottom cabinet. The length and shape of the table surfaces can be flexibly changed by sliding the top layer. By placing the top layer on the bottom cabinet at a right angle or other angles, it can be laid out with any shape of sofa. The flexibly changeable shapes and sizes within the simple construction are one of the appeals. We believe it is important to be completed as one solid block in a compact form.
This table also can be used as a sideboard or cabinet, in addition to a center table. When installed along a wall, its width can be flexibly changed by sliding the tabletop depending on the size of the wall. Therefore, it can perfectly fit between walls, as long as the wall width is within limits. It can also be used as a TV cabinet. The overall width can be adjusted depending on the TV size, making a perfect fit. The cabinet part was made following the specifications of the Composition cabinet, and has delicate thin cut ends. The mirror finished neutral colors (warm white and grey) further provide a sense of unity to the overall shape, while creating a soft impression in a space when it is slid.
