GRANDS ENSEMBLES | Rug 2.5
Rugs from Urban Fabric Rugs, Designed by John Monteith
Product description
100cm x 100cm
New Zealand wool
Limited Edition of 5
Based on recent drawings from his “Resonances” series, John Monteith’s ‘Grands Ensembles’ rugs were created in response to the architecture of various relational sites of social exchange that make up the urban environment. Skyscrapers and skylines, towers and buildings, zones, paths, and parks, inform and are recast in a series of overlapping, repeating, reformulated geometries, systems of exchange articulated through the reverberation of form. Focusing on architectural relationships, these works were produced in conversation with cities that bear a diverse history of the built form in their articulation of spatial dynamics and representational politics.
As a multi-disciplinary artist, Monteith encompasses an interdisciplinary approach in all his work. Across various media and throughout his career he’s developed a familiar aesthetic with rigorous conceptual underpinnings employing processes that include layering, distorting, cropping, rearranging, flattening, and reducing. Taken as a whole, Monteith’s art practice considers new ways of understanding our urban fabric as a constantly evolving lived space, one which continues to shape our collective imagination.
Our handmade Designer rugs are tufted from 100% New Zealand wool and are suitable for floor or wall applications. The rugs are carefully crafted by artisans with multiple cut pile heights to create a plush 3D relief texture and detail.
