SIGNATURE RUGS | Paris
Rugs from Urban Fabric Rugs, Designed by Andrei Zerebecky
Product description
Our Signature rug of Paris captures the distinctly characteristic pinwheel pattern of Paris’ streets, with its glorious wide boulevards that converge on the Arc de Triomphe. But the Paris we know and love did not always look like this.
In the mid-1800s, Paris’ overcrowded Medieval neighborhoods were a breeding ground for disease and their narrow, cavernous streets did not allow for sufficient light and air circulation. To tackle these issues, Napoleon III tasked urban planner G.E. Haussmann to lead a massive transformation of the city. Haussmann proposed a new plan of wide, straight streets complete with pedestrian boulevards. Implementing his plan required extensive demolition of the old urban fabric of Paris – in many cases, carving new roads directly through problematic old neighborhoods.
To capture Haussmann’s transformation of Paris, we cropped this rug following the very streets his plan carved into the former city fabric. The resulting shape is unique and pays homage to the history of modern day Paris. Optionally, the rug is available in the more conventional square, rectangular or circular shaped formats.
The Signature rug is tufted at multiple cut pile heights with 100% New Zealand wool, then hand-carved to give the urban pattern a plush, 3D relief texture. Customized size, color or shape available by request.
