Lever handles from Valli&Valli, Designed by Franco Poli

Product description

Concept

The year 2014 marks a new milestone in the history of Valli&Valli.

The Renate-based company blows its “first” eighty candles, and celebrates this important event with a new project that sure revolutionizes the concept of handle: Compasso.

Counting on its 80 years’ experience, Valli&Valli looks at the future and returns to Milan’s International Furniture Fair I Saloni with an important new product that expresses an innovative trend that is typical of the ASSA ABLOY Group, the Swedish giant which Valli&Valli became part of in 2008, and which is rated among the top 100 most innovative companies in the world in the list published by Forbes at the end of 2013. In addition, the year 2014 also marks the twentieth anniversary of the Swedish corporation.

Compasso, part of the Fusital collection by Valli&Valli, embodies the third revolution of the handle.

The first one is attributed to Pasquale Valli, in the company‘s early days : he was the one to bring the handle back to its ancient Renaissance splendour. Thanks to his intuition and vision, after years of obscurity, the handle was given back its original dignity, becoming once again an artistic and decorative element for doors.

Valli&Valli began to offer handles as unique pieces, almost like sculptures; no longer an insignificant accessory, sold by the dozen or by the pound, whose only function is to open doors.

The second revolution took place in 1976 with the creation of the Fusital collection started by Carlo Edoardo Valli: the handle became “art”. The most famous names in international design were called for the first time to design door handles, and so Valli&Valli became a modern Renaissance workshop, a real breeding ground where entrepreneurs-patrons and designers-artists redefined excellence in the unmistakable and unequalled “Italian Style”.

In 2008, Valli&Valli got a shot of new energy: becoming a part of ASSA ABLOY allows the company to reach cutting-edge technological peaks.

It is in this context that the third revolution of the handle is taking place: Compasso, from the creative genius of Franco Poli, designer with a Renaissance eclecticism yet projected towards new technologies, who instils new energy into the Fusital collection with this unparalleled project.

Compasso is the state of the art in handles: it is a statement of principle.

With Compasso, Franco Poli draws a new path in handle design: two pieces only, no spring for the internal structure; and only two pieces, customizable, for the exterior look.

Technicality and design merge into a cutting-edge project.

As of today, all handle subcomponents are similar: a set of moulded parts, springs, small mechanisms assembled like a precision watch to ensure a variable life (depending on quality) of that small masterpiece that opens doors.

Compasso, on the other hand, marks a significant change. The inner spring is replaced by a magnet, which guarantees higher performances in its function.

In fact, magnets, unlike springs, do not lose their strength over time.

This is why Compasso was designed with magnetic operation to ensure long-lasting use. The first and only one on the market, it can be adjusted from the outside, with no need to disassemble the whole handle, in order to restore perfect door perpendicularity in case of sagging.

As for its looks, Compasso is a jewel that blends in with the overall furnishings of any room.

Just like Words (the other handle designed by Franco Poli for Valli&Valli), the possibility to customize Compasso represents a significant added value.

Although extremely simple, Compasso features an elegant and well-defined design, and stands out against the door like a small sculpture: an important handle that can be personalized in endless ways. The front plate, also fixed by means of magnets, is available in various finishes: from the more traditional ones (Chrome, Cromosatin), to the brand new finish called Cromoton (a special procedure patented by Valli&Valli that entails a sort of “streaking” applied manually) , or it can be lined with wall paint or wallpaper (in case of “invisible” doors integrated with the wall ), wood or any other material to go with the style of one’s home .

Available in the following finishes: Orsatin, Cromosat, Cromoton, Orsat/unprocessed insert, Orsat/black Nextel insert, Cromosat/unprocessed insert, Cromosat/black Nextel insert, Cromoton/unprocessed insert, Cromoton/black Nextel insert.
