The roof garden allows you to rethink a terrace, the roof of the house and the garage in a completely different way, creating a real green corner in the city.
In Babylon, today's Baghdad, in Iraq in 570 BCE, Nebuchadnezzar II had the hanging gardens built, the first to be witnessed, on the terraces of a large concrete building built on several floors. The city, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, faced a desert climate zone where it was difficult to think of the presence of lush vegetation. Plants from all over the world were sprayed with a state-of-the-art irrigation system: water was distributed in the cisterns placed on the various floors thanks to large wheels that collected it directly from the nearby Euphrates river. The water gushed along the floors of the terrace creating small waterfalls and streams that always kept the ground moist.
Today intensive and extensive roof gardens are the perfect answer for those who want to enjoy the greenery also in the city, in the center as in industrial areas.
In the Scandinavian countries of Northern Europe they are a custom and in Italy they are spreading more and more thanks to the Green Bonus, an incentive for the realization of roof coverings. The bonus consists of an income tax deduction on the works carried out and was also confirmed for 2019.
