The Rockable and The Unrockable came into being as the result of a challenge put by the organisers of the exhibition Planken Ud at the Danish Museum of Decorative Art in 1999. The challenge to create a "seat" from a plank was presented to a number of partnerships between young Danish designers and cabinetmakers. The Rockable and The Unrockable were two controversial and dramatic items at the exhibition entered by the furniture designer Hans Sandgren Jakobsen.
