Alexandre Echasseriau – Ice-Berg

Bar complements from Wiener Silber Manufactur, Designed by Alexandre Echasseriau

Product description

Concept

Alexandre Echasseriau designs a drinks cooler for Wiener Silber Manufactur in the shape of a bold mountain landscape. The "ICE-BERG" was conceived for the Vienna Design Week 2015.

Alexandre Echasseriau's love of nature and his fascination with mountains gave him the idea of recreating a miniature Alpine landscape. Not only did it have to be visually striking but it also had to serve a practical purpose as a bottle holder and drinks cooler. The mountain landscape was created from two conical cylinders formed from a silver plate. Three craggy pinnacles tower up above the landscape. They serve firstly as a bottle rest and secondly as a tripod for the phase during which the "mountain" is inverted and filled with water to go into the freezer compartment. The "ICE-BERG" evokes the phenomena of water, ice and frost. In the freezer compartment where the water freezes to form ice, the outer walls mist up and the cold creates the illusion of a crisp layer of frost on rock formations. This icy crust melts at room temperature and very soon rivulets are trickling down from the steep slopes into a hollowed-out silver trough, in which the melt-water gradually forms a small mountain lake.
