Public or private exterior pedestal lights
Pedestal lights, also known as bollard lights, can either be mounted on individual exterior plinths such as pillars to give them height on a low-level path or walkway; set at regular intervals along a wall or raised platform, lighting a border wall for example; or they can be kept at a low level themselves, with less intrusion on the evening’s atmosphere but still projecting a safe and sensible path for passers-by.
In public spaces, pedestal lights bring necessary safety and accessibility to otherwise unlit routes. The lights deter late-night criminal activity but also provide assurance to uncertain pedestrians. In private spaces, they can add a border of light that measures and exposes both distance and shape in terraces, patios and other garden areas, bringing them to life.
Styles of pedestal light
Designed to require little or no maintenance, pedestal lights both for public and private use are formed from hardwearing materials such as treated metals, reinforced concrete and high-density polyurethane. Available styles range from traditional gaslight-inspired formats to sleeker, more modern interpretations of the type; slimmer, less invasive and more directional options; modern or post-modern sculptural forms and even those inspired by interior lighting styles for cosier, welcoming environments.
