The clients brief was to create a new interior that was completely different to the existing home. Rooms were dark with restricted connections to windows and outside spaces. Materials were heavy; dark timbers, colours and finishes enclosed the space. The design created and opened a new interior with better connections to adjacent spaces, gardens and terrace and provided new access to natural light and ventilation.
The material approach was to highlight the existing built fabric in all white including ornate details and window furnishings, stretching the proportions of the rooms giving better ambience. The focus was to create a relationship of interior joinery and loose furniture with a wholistic approach. The fit out consists of Calacatta marble, European oak, stainless steel and mild black steel of different proportions and details.
The final product can be considered a type of sophisticated restrained opulence which maintained and acknowledged the existing.
