Langstrasse Hiltl

In Zurich's vibrant Langstrasse a new Hiltl vegan vegetarian restaurant has opened. Café, cocktail bar, buffet, nightclub, shop, boulevard and take away - including a bike drive through - occupy the two floors for public. On a good 300 m2 on the ground floor, there are - in addition to a brilliant buffet area - more than 100 seats available for a pleasant stay in the city's Kreis 4. On bright days the offer is supplemented with another 100 outside seats.

The underground floor serves a large, 50-people communal table during the day - beneath the biggest Kaleidoscope in town. And it becomes the Club Perle at night, an event location for glittering parties on selected dates or for private parties with invited guests.

This hybrid myriad of uses is reflected in the open and flexible spatial organization. Held by a durable frame of concrete and rough brick, the most different surfaces, treatments and details differentiate them subtle. A stable, mineral core is completed in strategic points by an elegant soft textile cover, acting as room divider allowing for the different uses, while creating a warm, cosy, welcoming atmosphere. Gleaming stainless steel handrails connect the long bar upstairs with the shining, pulsating pearl that is the club underneath.

A series of interferences by artists Tobias Hantmann with the textile ceiling "fresco" extending thoughout the space, the diagrammatic tagging of the illustrator Safu and the multicoloured graffiti of Veli and Amos refer to the art tradition of the place.
