The big wide world on solid ground
Carpets by Carpet Concept make sure everyone keeps their feet on the ground in the new building of the European Headquarters of the Chinese shipping company China Shipping.
An urban planning project, unparalleled in Europe, is currently taking shape just south of Hamburg city centre. The revitalisation of the abandoned port is creating a residential quarter, perfectly located on the banks of the Elbe, in which living and working both find their place. Companies and individuals alike will find an attractive home in the modern HafenCity.
Against the unique backdrop of the historical Speicherstadt with its brick buildings and church towers, well-known planners have created a varied ensemble of buildings for all kinds of urban uses. Office buildings of architectural clarity and residential buildings in Hanseatic style are interspersed with trading companies, restaurants, parks and all kinds of facilities for culture and leisure time, making the quarter the centre of residential life for around 12,000 inhabitants, a work place for numerous employees and a destination for tourists, visitors and customers. The HafenCity promotes the international character and attraction of the Hanseatic city.
China Shipping, one of the world’s ten leading shipping lines, has its HQ in Shanghai and has set up its European headquarters here.
Star architect Hadi Teherani from BRT architects designed the eight-storey office building on the Sandtor quay which offers some 3,500 square metres of office space.
The glass complex, the design of which was inspired by pictures of stacked transport containers, rises up from the water and juts out on its southern side up to ten metres over the polder. The red steel constructions on both sides of the building are reminiscent of a van carrier used in the port for transporting containers.
The design of the interior follows the clean lines of the architecture. The wonderful view over the port lends the offices a touch of the big wide world. The Eco 1 woven carpet by Carpet Concept ensures agreeable objectivity in elegant grey. The creative weaving is the distinctive feature of the floor covering. The extremely hard-wearing ribbed material and the qualities of the woven loop make Eco the perfect furnishing for modern architectural concepts.
