×Toronto’s Union Station revitalization is poised to transform the heritage station for the 21st century as a major transit hub with world class architectural, retail and culinary offerings. When enlisted to design Amano Pasta, DesignAgency was challenged to design both a model for hospitality venues in the station and a flagship for the growing brand.
Amano delights passersby with a 20 foot long window framing animated views of chefs producing fresh pasta – the restaurant’s best advertisement. The interiors of the 2,600 square foot space blend inspiration from classic Italian bakeries and pasta factories with the sleek elements that give the restaurant a contemporary feeling. The entirely open concept room blends the front of house with the back of house and treats guests to views of fresh ingredients and food preparations, whether sitting down for a meal or picking up grab-and-go items. A monochromatic colour palette, contemporary linear lighting and a playful mix polished and rough textures – such as white tiles, natural Statuanetto marble counters, brick and weathered concrete walls and distressed leather chairs – are layered to create interiors as intriguing as the food.
