In West London, close to Golborne Road and the Trellick Tower, this private residence occupies an expansive basement (converted from an infamous former nightclub) with enclosed outdoor space, and a single-storey extension at street level.
The building is clad in hard blue brick and bright galvanised steel, punctuated by large glazed slots, addressing the urban streetscape. Internal details include expressed ceilings, cast concrete worktops and black mild steel staircases – the lightwell opens up to the courtyard to bring natural light into the property.
The project fulfilled the client’s brief to Emulsion: to bring together both the subterranean and above-ground spaces, which resulted in this carefully-designed and well-crafted home.
