It is an interior clinic project at old town in east Tokyo. We suggested very open and kind space for the people with kids or handicapped people, who are not easy to come to dental clinic usually. We propose not only universal design, for example, dental chair for the wheelchair and approaching slope, but also space for kids with traditional “tatami” mat, which is also familiar to old people. For this space, we made glass wall between examining room, to keep the parents eyes to the kids under treatment.
We tried to design the impressive wooden ceiling as we spend much time to see the ceiling during clinical examination. As we had gap of ceiling height in original building, so we designed geometric and rhythmical coved ceiling to unite experience at waiting room and examining room smoothly. Into coved ceiling we embedded indirect lighting for the patients not to feel it too bright. Regarding the façade we proposed to use wood fittings to make it as open as possible like bakery shop.
