A project involving historical architecture, practical aspects and the best use of space
The school is situated in the former Augustinian convent of Santa Chiara, next to the former Church of the same name, today an auditorium (in the historical centre of Sansepolcro). This is an ancient building, dating from the second half of the 13th century and renovated in the mid 16th century to a design by Giovan Battista Alberti. The San Giuliano and the Altarpiece of St. Augustine are works by Piero della Francesca unearthed in the adjacent church. De Amicis was used as a school building since the 1920s and until 2007.
The renovation of the building and the new lighting system.
In 2015 the school underwent major renovation and seismic upgrading, following the problems which had emerged during the tremors of 1997 and 2001. Many structural improvements were made, space allocation was reorganised and the lighting system completely revised. The building is now fitted with avant-garde Linea Light Group illumination, capable of ensuring comfort, functional flexibility as well as energy saving.
The entire complex is listed by the Soprintendenza per i BAPPSAE (Inspectorate for the Protection of Architectural Heritage, Art and Landscape) as a "building of historical architectural value"; no further windows can therefore be added. It was therefore particularly important for the project to follow certain standards to ensure adequate lighting and use the space in total respect for the visual health of students and those working there.
Linea Light Group products turned out to be the best solution to meet pre-established requirements.
Mr Magoo [Material & Design Lighting] and Mini Camp [TrĂ ddel Architectural Lighting] light up and decorate the common corridor areas, while My White [Home Lighting], Edith and Shore [TrĂ ddel Architectural Lighting], either ceiling-mounted or used as pendants in the classrooms, diffuse light evenly, respecting regulatory parameters on the amount of light needed.
The ancient architecture of the cloister on the other hand is highlighted by Vedette units on columns and HV for the portico archways [i-LèD Professional Lighting].
