The new museum's clean lines and strategic location, between the Villa Planta and the Rhaetian Railway's administrative building, are striking. The small above-ground volume and the symmetrical facade emphasise autonomy while displaying a respectful attitude toward the historic villa in the garden and the adjacent building. The Villa Planta looks like a painting, a work of art framed by the west-facing window wall. The project, art promotion and museum display spaces are housed in the cube-shaped building above ground, and all get natural light. The museum's actual size is not revealed until you go down to the lower floors.
Six 5.60 m-tall s_enn® stainless steel roller shutters were installed as a shading system in the foyer. The key element of the s_enn® metal shutter – the shutter profile – is the product of a collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg. This profile allows s_enn® to maximise the building's efficiency in terms of energy consumption. Due to the shutter's exceptional transparency, visual contact with the outside world is maintained even when the shutter is fully extended. Small winding diameters also enable compact installation dimensions. It features excellent wind resistance and a timeless design.
