“Profoundly Dutch in a contemporary, international context” This grand design the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs by Edward van Vliet merges Dutch heritage with modernity while underlining the rich blend of cultural influences which have always found a main point of entry in Amsterdam throughout the centuries. The ample use of the colour blue, the Dutch cloudscape on the ceiling and intricate patterns found in furniture and floors remind us of both the building’s proud history as a naval base and of the sea that has always connected us with the rest of the world. Classic design features and craftsmanship are rediscovered to meet 21st century standards. Daylight and nature are brought right into the heart of the interior to create areas that have a stunning presence but also form very pleasant working environments.
