Clinic with a high level of comfort
The “Orthoparc” orthopaedic centre of excellence in Cologne provides patients with an atmosphere, which through a zest for life creates a positive mood and supports the healing process. Design flooring from objectflor provides the basis for this concept.
Patient-focused architecture and expertise in hip and knee endoprosthetics, foot, knee, shoulder and spinal surgery are the key features of the “Orthoparc” concept. The focus is on the quality of medical care but the patients’ stay should be made as pleasant as possible with good service and a special ambience. This includes incorporating the idea of rapid recovery into the interior design. In a safe environment, the intention is for patients to be encouraged to start moving again as quickly as possible. The interior designer, Monika Lepel, describes the result as follows: "This is the place where patients regain their mobility and zest for life.”
High-quality elm effects
When designing the “Orthoparc”, the Lepel & Lepel design office made a distinction between the areas where medical treatment is carried out and the lounge areas for patients. The expertise in medical care is emphasised over an area of 350 square metres by using the high-contrast effect of the colours white and light blue with the almost black wood effect “Black Elm” (EXPONA DESIGN 6183). In the patient areas, colours such as lime green, off-white and blackberry red accentuate the quality of the stay as well as stimulating elements in the orthopaedic centre. This atmospheric design is supported over a total area of 1,000 square metres with the somewhat lighter elm effect, “Aged Elm” (EXPONA DESIGN 6184). Because the flooring used in this concept would have to meet particularly high requirements, both from a design and functional point of view, the designers first inspected a previous objectflor project so that they could convince themselves of the quality of the flooring, even after intensive use. After inspection, they were just as convinced by the flooring’s easy care qualities, due to the factory-applied PU surface treatment, its resilience and walking comfort as by the lasting beauty of the surfaces.
