The idea behind the Mela chair was to create a piece that has a distinctive character, combining the typology of the classic chair with an upholstered shell (seat and backrest) with the poetic beauty of a wooden chair.
The mid-century inspired wooden structure embraces the upholstered backrest, creating a perfect symbiosis of the contrasting elements.
It was a challenge to create a chair that is suitable for both home and contract use, that offers the comfort of an upholstered chair, but keeps the elegance and proportion of a thin and visually light wooden chair.
The modern production methods allowed the classic wooden joints to be reinforced just in the right places, keeping the chair’s construction as visually thin as possible, but still stable and functional.
After the design of the Mela chair, a collection of upholstered furniture was developed based on the same design language - the Mela lounge collection.
The collection consists of an armchair, lounge chair and sofa, which comes in different dimensions.
The Mela collection is available in 6 different types of wood (oak, walnut, maple, elm, cherry and pear), with various natural finishes (oils and soaps) upholstered with a range of leathers or fabrics.
