Don’t believe the hype, but rather go and taste it for yourself - this is the only advice I can give for the people who were scared away by the huge crowds at the opening of Dandy Diner by Hermannplatz. The guys from Dandy Diary are now the owners of a small restaurant with big plans; the Dandy Diner is supposed to present the veggie alternative to McDonald’s, with every detail perfected, even down to the specially-commissioned salt and juices.
The interior, created by Studio Karhard, was also specially commissioned, and lies aesthetically somewhere between an American diner and an old-school butchers - very modern, and very nice to eat in. As for the menu, the only thing that needs to be said is that Carl Jakob Haupt and David Roth have already easily outdone the popular fast-food giants; their Asia burger and Chorizo sandwich taste fantastic, even without meat, and the vegan mayonnaise is so good that I actually wanted to take some home with me. However, it would be boring if they stuck to just food, and the merging of burgers and fashion begins with their aprons, designed by Henrik Vibskov and soon to be sold at Voo Store in Kreuzberg, and continues with a Julian Zigerli pop-up store that will be held from 12-25.5.2016 at the restaurant.
