Hotel Kinsley

Now open, Hotel Kinsley is the first destination hotel to open in the Hudson Valley town of Kingston, New York, a thriving community with arts, culture, and food offering a respite from city life just two hours from Manhattan.

Composed of four carefully restored historic buildings dating from 1688 to the late 19th century in the Uptown Stockade District, the hotel includes Kinsley Restaurant, located at 301 Wall Street (the flagship property and first building to open), and is run by James Beard-award winning restaurateur Taavo Somer, with chef Zakary Pelaccio of Hudson’s Fish & Game consulting on the menu.

The 43-room Hotel Kinsley is the latest property from developers CBSK Ironstate. Studio Robert McKinley brings the interiors to life by taking cues from each property’s distinct architectural details, such as centuries-old tile work and original tin ceilings.

Design
Hotel Kinsley will be tied together by a residential feeling and a sense of relaxed elegance. McKinley has incorporated a mix of vintage and custom furniture, self-serve honor bars, cozy living rooms and in-room wood-burning fireplaces throughout the property. Original artworks and photography are displayed throughout.

Food & Beverage
The New American restaurant is the brainchild of Taavo Somer, the restaurateur behind venerable downtown New York establishments including Freeman’s, the Rusty Knot and Gemma in the Bowery Hotel. Executive Chef Gabe Ross worked with chef/restaurateur consultants Zakary Pelaccio and Kevin Pomplun of Hudson’s Fish & Game and Backbar.

Ross has crafted a seasonal, locally sourced menu, which showcases the bounty of the Hudson Valley region. The 50-seat dining room combines terrazzo floors, intimate velvet couches, and accents of greenery alongside an original mural by painter and illustrator Happy Menocal in an atmosphere of understated glamour.

Destination History & Activities Kingston’s rich history has included a stint as New York’s first capital in 1777, before being burned by the British that same year after the Battle of Saratoga. The city was a key transport center in the 19th century due to the town’s rail and canal access. With a current population of 23,000, Kingston boasts three historic districts - Uptown Stockade District, the Midtown Neighborhood Broadway Corridor, and the Downtown Rondout-West Strand Historic District.

Every Saturday from May through November, Wall Street is closed for the bustling Kingston Farmers Market, drawing vendors from counties up and down the Hudson River.

Rondout, a former fishing village, is home to the Maritime Museum, Wooden Boat School, and Milne Antiques – a 6,000 square foot atelier with furniture, fine arts and collectibles. The Ulster Performing Arts Center in Midtown, Kingston is a premier performing arts venue of the Hudson Valley. Hikers will enjoy a range of trails in the region.

Getting There
Kingston is located 91 miles north of New York City. Visitors can take Amtrak from Penn Station to Rhinecliff, and then take a short taxi to Kingston. Adirondack Trailways operates bus service from the Port Authority in New York City directly into Kingston. Hotel Kinsley offers parking and valet service.
