Dining in the countryside: star-rated restaurant Steirereck in Vienna furnished with Thonet chairs
Following the conversion and expansion of the renowned restaurant Steirereck in Vienna, 70 chairs of the product family 190 by Lievore Altherr Molina (2012) now make their contribution to the simple and inviting ambience of the dining room. The four wings of the building stretch into the adjoining park where the terrace of the restaurant, considered one of the best in the world, used to be. In good weather, the floor-to-ceiling windows can be folded open, giving the impression that one is dining in the countryside. Bringing the park into the restaurant was the guiding idea of the experts from PPAG architects (project management Manfred Botz) when planning the comprehensive conversion.
The restaurant’s owners, Birgit Reitbauer and Heinz Reitbauer, who is also the head chef, chose Thonet’s program range 190 chairs because of their formal beauty and exceptional comfort as well as the soft velveteen haptics of the sanded and oiled wood frames. Version 192 PF used at the Steirereck has armrests and is covered with the elegant grey fabric Tokyo by Kvadrat.
The chair programme designed by Lievore Altherr Molina is characterised by the conical wooden chair legs tapering towards the top that give the classic concept a dynamic lightness. The combination of wood and upholstery communicates warmth and comfort.
