Designed by Verderame | Cale, Humanscale's new 33,000-square-foot headquarters in New York City serves as an office, showroom and design studio.
It's strategically located on the 15th floor of the Grace Building, a LEED Silver landmark, with unobstructed views of Bryant Park and a strong connection to nature. According to Deborah Verderame, Principal of Verderame | Cale, “Humanscale wanted a minimalist design space wherein the product would be highlighted alongside a clean aesthetic. By diffusing the line where showroom and office space transition, Humanscale’s products and ergonomic solutions are showcased in real time by their own team members. This strategic space planning allows the showroom to bleed seamlessly into the work spaces and design studios, allowing employees and guests to move freely throughout the entire floor.”
White tile and Calacatta marble surfaces lend a modern feel balanced by light woods to add warmth and texture, resulting in an interior that is bright and airy. The reception area, showroom, glass enclosed conference rooms, and open offices are strategically positioned along the south wall of the building.
A corridor lined with window seats and numerous huddle spaces unites the various spaces, offering countless vantage points to the lush green lawn, seasonal flowers and native foliage below. Access to natural light is available throughout. The galley kitchen, which is stocked with fresh fruit and healthful options, features a living green wall, long communal table, banquettes and breakout areas. The new space will allow Humanscale to host a variety of events—including receptions and continuing education sessions—and facilitate significantly larger audiences than its previous location.
