In 2012, a new centre for research and innovation evolved in the Dutch town of Delft, right next door to the campus of the University of Technology: Technopolis, the Science Port Holland, is home today to numerous companies from the fields of medical engineering, climate and energy, industrial bio-technology, as well as water and delta engineering. One of these is Deltares, an independent research institute which specialises in solutions for the protection of river estuaries, coasts and waterways.
Situated in the grounds of Technopolis, it is now the latest new company building for more than 200 members of a total of 800 Deltares staff, who are already at locations in Delft and Utrecht. Created by Jeanne Dekkers architects office in Delft, the unusual tripod-like form of the new building is reminiscent of a river delta, or perhaps a tetrapod, and provides 6,000 sqm of utilizable floor space.
During the flurry of activities in connection with their new building, Deltares decided to refurbish and re-furnish their existing interiors. Deltares based their new furnishing concept on the work form known as Het Nieuwe Werken (New Work) that is practised in the Netherlands, and meant that future furnishing was subject to clearly defined requirements. Hence, the search was on for a workplace solution that not only makes flexible work possible, but also provides the user with electromotive height adjustment, intelligent cable management, the adaptation of monitor-holders and noise protection.
Taking these parameters as the benchmark, WINI developed and constructed the so-called DUO workstation which skilfully blends the strengths of the standard-built WINEA PRO and WINEA ECO table systems: the double workplace which thus evolved was compact and highly ergonomic, with a low-noise, energy-saving engine and an integrated acoustic panel with built-on organisation rail from the WINEA SINUS range. The DUO workstation boasts a multitude of features: a slide-able top, a cable duct and special cable passages for perfect cable management, integrated multiple sockets, USB connections and charging options all contribute to intelligent electric power management – not to mention the practical connecting options of single or double monitor supporting arms.
A generously proportioned conference area that mirrors the distinctive architecture of the new building with a similar tripod-like shape, and is based on the WINEA PRO table system – this was another special solution that WINI developed exclusively for Deltares.
