Innovation and Craftsmanship in Historical Preservation
The harbour building from the 1960s is one of the last designs by the architect W.M. Dudok. Fokkema & Partners has brought new glory to this landmark. Natural materials, which underscore the quality of the landmark, were used in a modern way. Rough and robust materials such as steel and solid wood relate to the industry of the Amsterdam harbour and shipbuilding, while classic materials such as Carrara marble, stucco and wool fabrics refer to the architecture of Dudok.
The new entrance hall with a striking reception and spacious waiting area provides a representative entrance for employees and visitors. A spiral staircase in marble leads to the restaurant in the first floor, a tribute to the original staircase by Dudok. Here you will find MORPH chairs from ZEITRAUM in American walnut.
