Ambiente 2024 marks new beginnings that stimulate inspiration.
Ambiente 2024 is gearing up for a dose of design inspiration with a trio of exciting features. Leading the charge is award-winning Italian designer Elena Salmistraro, who brings her creative touch to ‘The Lounge’ – an area of interior design and hospitality that marks the launch of ‘Ambiente Designer 2024’. The fair also unveils an immersive structure, introducing theme days like Designer Day, featuring guest designers that share diverse perspectives. Thirdly, the talents programs continue to evolve, providing a dynamic platform for the industry’s future. Carefully crafted to promote the community spirit, the event comes to life from January 26 – January 30, 2024 in Messe Frankfurt.
As Ambiente unfolds, it invites designers, enthusiasts, and industry professionals to be part of a dynamic celebration of innovation and the future. With The Lounge, Designer Day, and Ambiente Talents at the forefront, the event promises an immersive experience that transcends traditional trade fairs. The second significant addition to the calendar is Designer Day, set to take center stage on Saturday, where five guest designers infuse the day with diverse perspectives. Thirdly, Ambiente Talents continues its legacy of nurturing upcoming designers from Germany and abroad, inviting young talents to bring fresh perspectives and answer societal questions with future-oriented concepts.

×Elena Salmistraro sets up The Lounge
Delving deeper into the event’s structure, The Lounge by Elena Salmistraro marks the beginning of a new venture. The multi-award-winning Italian product designer and artist introduces this space of familiarity and transition, but nonetheless functional, where people are invited to work, eat, read, have a drink and pass the time. In a dynamic society embracing hybrid lifestyles and spaces, lounges become pivotal. Notably, from 2024 onwards, Ambiente will be starting signal for an ongoing project: every year, Ambiente will now select an upcoming designer with an exclusively designed special presentation.
‘I am very pleased to be taking part in Ambiente in Frankfurt for the first time and to be designing the exciting project The Lounge. I have chosen a theme that offers an innovative perspective, not through a formally strict approach, but with a light-hearted look at contemporary design and a focus on the pursuit of happiness,’ says Elena Salmistraro.

×A burst of colour and creativity is also bound to be unleashed. For the first time, the event is embracing a new structure, introducing monothematic theme days to cater to the diverse streams of visitors. Award ceremonies take the spotlight on Friday, designated as Awards Day, while Sunday focuses on trade dynamics. Monday on the other hand earns its title as Hotelier’s Day, tailored to the specific needs of hoteliers, restaurateurs, chefs, and F&B managers in the flourishing Hospitality section of Ambiente.
‘For 2024, we are planning a new structure for our supporting programme: We are introducing monothematic theme days to better pick up and serve the streams of visitors we know,’ explains Julia Uherek, Vice President of Consumer Goods Fairs.

×The long-term vision of Designer Day is to include building a community, uniting the many talents who have followed Ambiente’s path in recent decades. Julia Uherek envisions the fair as the ultimate meeting place for the international scene, fostering connections between industry players, designers, and the media. Various events offer opportunities for networking within the community and connecting with potential clients.
‘The projects of the young designers show that this is where the music of the future is playing. Ambiente has always been a meeting place for designers from all over the world. In 2024, we want to create more opportunities for designers to meet exhibitors, visitors and the media and are planning more visibility and better points of contact for the design community,’ continues Julia Uherek.

×Ambiente's 'Talents' programme continues its legacy
Last but not least, the 'Talents' programme continues its legacy, welcoming applications until October 16, 2024. In this constructive environment fostered by Ambiente, the next generation of designers finds an apt stage to present their work at the world’s largest trade fair for consumer goods. Young talents specializing in interior design and tableware & accessories showcase their approaches to contemporary living environments. For many, ‘Talents’ marks their debut in front of a large professional audience comprising exhibitors, visitors, and the press all gathered at Messe Frankfurt.
‘Design makes an important contribution to solving the great challenges of our time. Intelligent and at the same time emotional design with a sense of purpose and a message – long-lasting and recyclable – is more important than ever. With our Talents programme, selected designers have the chance to present their individual approaches on a prominent platform in the direct competitive environment, to send messages and to network internationally,’ concludes Julia Uherek.
