In a new edition of its exclusive bathroom concepts, AXOR is once again offering inspiration for the design of luxurious oases of well-being. As part of its project 'Distinctive. New ideas of individual luxury. From personalities for personalities', Paris-based designer Tristan Auer was asked to create a unique wellness concept alongside other experts. For the project, and in his typical style, Auer captured not only the sights, sounds and smells but also the textures of Hong Kong, the city where a high-rise flat was made available to him for the execution of this special creative task, and a setting that the designer immediately compared with the cityscape of Ridley Scott's 'Blade Runner'.

Auer's design, with mirrors framed by neon lights, is reminiscent of the narrow streets of the metropolis, lined with flashing advertising signs and populated by throngs of people – multi-layered, shady, mildly dystopian yet without any trace of gloom. An important part of the picture involves the AXOR Edge mixer series by Jean-Marie Massaud, which features a prismatic structure milled in a high-precision diamond cut. As a basin mixer and as a free-standing bath mixer, they are finished in Polished Gold Optic and form a striking contrast to the surrounding materials that include mirrored stainless steel and light and dark travertine – a nod to the aesthetics of the 1980s. ‘In Hong Kong,’ Auer explains, ‘there are the crowds on the streets, and then as you move upwards, it becomes more futuristic. So I combine old antique pieces with very modern textures.’ Finally, the AXOR ShowerHeaven and the AXOR Edge thermostat module combine to provide ultra-modern functionality in the shower area.

For this concept – and this is really extraordinary – Auer for once did not let himself be guided by the wishes of his customers, but rather was able to see himself as the driver. ‘For me, it was a gift to be able to do this project, because it is always very interesting to work for yourself,’ he enthuses.
