In ancient Rome, the bathroom was a social centre of everyday life, over the centuries however this cultural experience of the body has developed into more of a personal retreat. Initially intended as purely functional in nature, the bathroom has in more recent times taken on a new significance in our lives.

"People perceive the bathroom as an oasis of well-being. They stay in this room for much longer, and mould it to their own individual style" confirms Sven Rensinghoff, Head of Marketing at BETTE. The German family-owned company has followed the developments in bath culture since 1952, and from directly in the town of Delbrück, produces washbasins, bathtubs, shower trays and shower surfaces to the highest level of precision, and from natural materials.

The glazed titanium steel from which each product is made represents the unmistakable DNA of the brand and ensures particularly clear, flowing shapes – the most important prerequisite for limitless architectural design freedom. After all, we are no longer bound by the concept of a uniform bathroom system, rather we have the possibility to immerse ourselves in a world of our own. "The materials are becoming more honest, more durable and more valuable. This also means diversity in design, in structures, in the use of spaces. There are fewer rules now. BETTE is responding to this by making its portfolio more flexible, i.e. by serving freedom and system in equal measure," says product designer Dominik Tesseraux.

So, sunglasses on, book, towel, perhaps even the guitar under your arm. There’s nothing like enjoying time in the bath of your dreams – whether inside or out!

Show character

Who wants to be with someone who has nothing to say? With its free-standing bathtubs and washbasins, BETTE has developed design objects that are not built in but self-confident components of the architecture. In addition to the striking shape of the BetteLux Shape bathtub or the sculptural BetteArt Monolith washbasin, their special haptics also play a vital role. The BetteLux Oval Couture line for example, with its upholstered fabric cladding, brings a particular level of softness and comfort into play – but just like your swimsuit, it’s snug but still absolutely resistant to water. The BetteLoft Ornament line is also expressive, making a statement with its geometric pattern, both visible and tangible.

Staying in the flow

There are few things more soothing to the eye or the soul than when everything flows. From breath to form. This may sound esoteric, but also clearly relates to simple elements such as bathtubs – whether in the natural design of the BetteLux line, which consists of a basic organic form with filigreed outer edges, or in the symmetrical tub shape of BetteStarlet. The puristic BetteArt line with its soft lines also appears to be cast in one piece. And if you want to have your own private pool party, BettePond Silhouette is the perfect addition – with its circular shape and extra large diameter for all-round relaxation.

Systematic

No less effective are the bathroom solutions that are integrated into the surrounding architecture, for continuous materiality and a uniform design language. The BetteLux line is also a real gold medal winner in this form, together with the built-in washbasin BetteLoft, which also keeps everything stylishly in its frame. The generous inner body of the washbasin is concealed by a precise contour and offers deep levels of contentment even in the case of a quick splash. And not forgetting the classic BetteFloor Collection – this floor-elevation shower blends into any architectural design, thus offering comfort on all levels.

A familiar circle: the round basin of the BetteCraft combines clarity with filigree materiality (top). And in the BettePond Silhouette, a busy mind can switch off and submerge itself for a moment (above)

Show your colours

Anyone who wants to give all this purity a distinctive touch can set individualised accents with BETTE Key Colours – because all bathroom objects are not only available in different dimensions and variations, but also in numerous colours, including 22 exclusive matt colours. In addition, the BETTE colour laboratory offers architects and planners the opportunity to create their own colour, which is then permanently fused with the titanium steel using the proven wet-on-wet enamelling process.

Once you’ve dipped your toe into this world, it may be difficult to open the bathroom door again and continue rowing down the stream of everyday life. The good thing though is that this little paradise is not far away and will be waiting for you tonight at the latest, when you can once again simply drift off and be.
