From 2 to 6 October, Light + Building Autumn Edition will once again educate and empower the world’s design and construction industries with the latest insights into modern trends and technology.
Light + Building has greatly expanded the Digital Extensions area and its in-depth online offering, while vital, face-to-face interaction which has long been missed due to the pandemic returns to Frankfurt this year

×The excitement is mounting. In just a few weeks, the Light + Building Autumn Edition opens its doors in Frankfurt. For many, the feeling will be like that of meeting an old friend again after not seeing one another for years. And for architects and designers involved in lighting planning and design in particular, this post-pandemic return to Frankfurt should be an especially satisfying one.
At last, again, the chance for face-to-face personal and professional interaction and the opportunity to see the aesthetic and technical qualities of new products first hand. For specifiers, it is vital, after all, to be able to see and judge details such as processing qualities, material thicknesses or colour nuances up close. And this, of course, is and continues to be the key strength of Light + Building: bringing together lighting professionals and providing an overview of trends in the various segments on an international level – as it will do again this year from 2 to 6 October. Understandably, it has been missed.

×Numerous registrations in the last weeks
The very positive response to its return is also being proven by the latest figures: over 1,500 exhibitors from 46 countries will be showing their new products. Johannes Möller, head of brand management for Light + Building, comments: ‘I am very pleased that we are able to revise our forecasts upwards – in the last few weeks, we continued to receive numerous registrations. This is a strong commitment by the industry to the Light + Building Autumn Edition and it is clear to see how much everyone is looking forward to seeing each other again in October.’
Special venues have been created at the Autumn Edition of the Frankfurt Fair for specialist lectures, presentations and discussion events. With the ‘Design Plaza’ in the lighting area in Hall 3.1 and the ‘Building Plaza’ in the building technology area in Hall 9.0, there will be two central points of contact. Möller is convinced that the two thematically bundled meeting points will help to promote optimal conditions for personal encounters, networking and knowledge transfer.
The warmth and intensity of light can best be judged up close and in person. It's not only about degrees of brightness though, but also the details and overall effect

×Events and trends
On the Design Plaza stage in Hall 3.1, the focus every day will be on lighting trends. For example, the designers from the bora.herke.palmisano style agency will give a daily presentation on which colours, shapes and materials will determine lighting design in the near future. In addition, the trend themes will be presented in the form of mood boards in the immediate vicinity of the stage.
Other events will also be dedicated to design and architecture. On the very first day of the fair, the awards ceremony for the ‘Best of’ winners of the Design Plus Award powered by Light + Building will take place. The jury has awarded the coveted ‘Design Plus’ label to a total of 34 products. They will be on show in an accompanying exhibition in Hall 3.1. On 2 October, the talks by World-Architects will also start at the Design Plaza.
They start with Birgit Walter from Barcelona-based lighting design studio BMLD. The following day, Carla Wilkins from Lichtvision Berlin and Paolo Cocconi from Lichtvision Barcelona will continue the talks. Each talk will be followed by a thematically appropriate tour. Architonic has also invited international experts to discuss topics such as sustainable design, efficient lighting design and innovative materials. Information on other lectures and events at the Design Plaza is available at light-building.com/events.

×Lighting – relevant worldwide
The topic of light is of course a centrally relevant one and it is becoming increasingly important in terms of new urban safety concepts and finding innovative ways to energy, for example, and the Light + Building website includes various engaging articles and specialist information on this subject. In terms of exhibitors, after Germany, the most represented countries are Italy, Turkey, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, Great Britain, France, Belgium and Greece.
The Building section is located in the west of the Exhibition Centre and covers the major themes of building automation, energy management and charging infrastructure in Halls 9, 11 and 12. Numerous key players from the sector will be represented, with Busch-Jaeger, Gira, Albrecht Jung, Phoenix Contact, Siemens, Wago and Wöhner, for example, all showing their latest innovations there.
