In an ideal world, we would all associate bathrooms with escapism rather than functionality. But the pace of our everyday lives often overrides the possibility to prioritise moments of indulgence and personal care over simple hygiene concerns. GROHE is hoping to change this. By putting emotional and sensory experiences first, the leading global manufacturer in the water technology sector under LIXIL is tapping into broader lifestyle trends that value self-care and relaxation. A research-driven approach ensures that products meet and amplify these desires effectively.

How do they do it? In two recent conversations at ISH 2025, Architonic Editor-in-Chief Simon Keane-Cowell had the opportunity to dig deeper with Patrick Speck, Leader, LIXIL Global Design EMENA, and designer Constantina Tsoutsikou, founder of London-based Studio LOST. The result: two inspiring discussions on how to transform everyday actions into moments of joy.

Redefining the water ritual

In his Architonic Interview, Speck highlighted three key trends that drive GROHE’s development: the shift from functional to experiential usage of the bathroom, customisation and sustainability in product design. Innovations like GROHE’s Purefoam and Rainshower Aqua Pure shower systems exemplify the brand’s commitment to providing luxurious experiences while integrating advanced water technology. ‘All of our products are manifested based on four very distinctive pillars: quality, technology, design and sustainability’, says Speck. ‘When we have that perfect mix, we are sure that we are delivering the pure joy of water to our consumers.’

Customisation at GROHE is enhanced through a diverse array of colours, materials and finishes to suit individual preferences. The brand’s commitment to sustainability is exemplified by technologies such as EcoJoy, which significantly reduce water consumption without compromising performance, and the Everstream shower, designed for water recycling. Speck concluded by asserting GROHE’s dedication to consumer satisfaction while promoting responsible use of resources, aiming to lead the industry in sustainable practices and innovative design.

A perfect fusion

In the next conversation, Studio LOST founder Constantina Tsoutsikou elaborated on her long-term symbiotic partnership with GROHE, revealing how the collaboration emerged out of mutual respect and shared visions. Having followed GROHE’s progress in the industry and their product launches, an ongoing dialogue about needs and potentials in design catalysed various projects. ‘Designers can be quite demanding at times. We want the right things at the right time. So it’s nice to have this working relationship where you can just pick up the phone and understand what they’re doing and which launches are coming up,’ she says.

One stand-out collaboration was a significant renovation for the Camellia Hotel in Croatia, where the transformation of the bathroom space was pivotal. Tsoutsikou was tasked with remodelling the existing room spaces, and created a boudoir experience by integrating elements of wellness with GROHE’s Essence fixtures in Cool Sunrise. This design made the bathroom more visible, acknowledging its significance in the room’s overall atmosphere while ensuring that the fixtures made a stylish yet understated statement. ‘The product was discreet and able to create the crucial balance’, explains Tsoutsikou, underlining GROHE as a leading choice for architects and designers who prioritise exceptional product performance as well as aesthetics.
