For over 70 years, Münchener Boulevard Möbel – MBM for short – has been producing high-quality outdoor furniture, with a clear focus on craftsmanship, quality and design. For the traditional company, which is deeply rooted in Bavaria and closely tied to its Munich origins, innovation and sustainability in production also play an extremely important role. So much so that they have developed a material that has overtaken classic teak wood in the manufactory and is charting a completely new path of durability.

With this in mind, it is only logical that MBM also pursues a decidedly timeless design approach – once again with the aim of enjoying the furniture for as long as possible and using it for as long as possible. Fleeting trends do not fall on fertile ground here. On the contrary: every piece of furniture is developed in-house with experienced specialists and brought to production maturity. ‘We like to draw inspiration from moods and special moments. We imagine the experiences our customers will have with their new MBM garden furniture and try to give shape to these moments,’ emphasises Roland Stoiber and adds: ’Our outdoor furniture brings comfort that you are otherwise only used to indoors. They transform any outdoor space into a stylish living room outside – turning any garden into a home in the open.’

Like wood, only better

When it comes to durability and resilience ‘FUREMA’ is referred to – a high-tech material that looks just like its natural counterpart, and not only that, it feels just like it too. However, its greatest strength, besides its appearance, is the sustainability that comes with the use of this material. The driving force behind the development of FUREMA – a neologism derived from ‘Furniture Resysta Material’ – was the meticulous search for an appealing alternative to teak, which is no longer considered modern due to its disproportionate heavy extraction and the resulting ecological imbalance.

‘Raw materials that we extract from nature should be used for as long as possible – MBM, therefore, began developing an alternative for tropical teak wood at an early stage’

‘Nowadays, combining beautiful furniture with good functionality is no longer enough. Consumers increasingly want products made from sustainable materials. Raw materials that we extract from nature should be used for as long as possible,’ Roland Stoiber, CEO of the manufacturer Münchener Boulevard Möbel, is convinced. ‘MBM, therefore, began developing an alternative for tropical teak wood before the turn of the millennium. From this, our FUREMA garden furniture was created, made from a material that consists of around 60 per cent rice husks, a by-product of the food industry.’ The material has already won several awards, including the Green Product Award 2018.

Living the lightness

The outdoor furniture manufacturer's portfolio reflects all facets of an inviting and enjoyable time in an outdoor oasis. Starting with the ‘Circular’ lounge island, a circular daybed where one can relax alone or with a partner. It convincingly demonstrates that FUREMA can also be ideally bent into circular shapes. The range continues with the ‘Violino’ dining and lounge furniture collection, an iconic combination of FUREMA, metal and rope in Forest Green and Stardust Gold, with a frame resembling an abstract musical clef. The portfolio is rounded off with the ‘Wind’ collection, which – inspired by the lightness of the wind – embodies a refreshing sense of ease with a backrest made of ropes and a frame made of FUREMA. This garden chair was honoured with the German Design Award 2025.

‘We work daily to make the recycling process as simple as possible and to offer products that will conserve not only our resources today, but also tomorrow’

The fact that the company is seriously committed to combating the massive deforestation, and thus making an important contribution to preventing the destruction of the rainforest, is also reflected in the dedicated recycling concept MBM has developed for its products. This begins with the fact that recycled polymers and rice husks, a residual product from the food industry that cannot be utilised in any other way, are used in the production of FUREMA. This combination creates an environmentally friendly and recyclable material. ‘Our recycling concept has won awards: in our product design, we make sure that the materials can be easily separated in order to make the recycling process as simple as possible,’ explains Roland Stoiber.

‘So, should the day ever come if you want or need to part with your furniture, it can easily be recycled – over, and over again. We work daily to become even better in these areas and offer products that will conserve not only our resources today, but also tomorrow.’
