Call it a cistern. Call it a tank. Whichever way you slice it, it’s done a disappearing act. Heavyweight bathroom brand ROCA, in collaboration with Siamp, are launching a true innovation at ISH this March in the form of the Hydro In-Tank WC, which sees the cistern, along with all other functional elements, such as the flush buttons, fully integrated into the toilet bowl. The WC becomes a single, pleasingly sculptural, element that pays dividends when it comes to planning, installation and maintenance.

A jointless flush system, also integrated into the toilet, means less likelihood of leakage

There’s silent flushing and antimicrobial glazing, too, but let’s focus on the in-built tank. Its incorporation into the bowl means no separate cistern, and by extension, no on-wall plate. So, whether we’re talking about a traditional tank installed in front of or behind the wall, space is immediately saved when switching to the Hydro In-Tank WC – a major benefit in the era of ever-smaller bathrooms in cities.

Beyond the obvious aesthetic benefit for architects and bathroom planners of this physical reduction, the time required for installation is reduced, too. What’s more, maintenance is made easier. A jointless flush system, also integrated into the toilet, means less likelihood of leakage.

And, to cap it all, the Hydro In-Tank WC doesn’t require an electrical connection. Its flushing mechanism is power-free. (If not hands-free.)
