The functional features of REFLEX by Girsberger support the swivel chair's aesthetic appeal

At first glance, REFLEX appears to be an unadorned, aesthetically styled swivel chair. At the same time, however, the chair offers an exceptionally high standard of comfort: The user's back and the backrest of the chair virtually merge into one. And thanks to numerous setting options such as height and depth of the seat, position of the lumbar support and angle of the seat, the chair can be adjusted to ideally suit the individual requirements of the current user.

The distinctive feature of REFLEX is the chair's innovative backrest. This is totally non-mechanical, its three-dimensional moulding capacity being solely due to the characteristics of the materials it is made of. The construction of the backrest is similar to that of the slat frames usually found in beds. However, the mechanical elements – which are necessary in beds but would spoil the chair's aesthetic appearance here – are missing. The structure of supporting slats at the centre with spring connections at the sides reacts reflexively to provide the user's back with immediate and precise support and relief. Although its volume is minimum, the backrest offers optimum comfort.

An especially developed spring element made of plastic adapts itself to the shape of the chair's user. With the result that REFLEX is able to meet the different requirements of each individual. But many trials and tests were necessary before this solution, which now seems plain and simple, was found.

With REFLEX, designer Dieter Stierli, who has worked for Girsberger for over thirty years, created an office chair in which everybody immediately feels comfortable, and which many people find aesthetically attractive. The innovative idea of using functional qualities to further aesthetic appearance earned Dieter Stierli and the engineers at Girsberger the renowned "red dot award". The statement of grounds for the award says: "Innovation is apparent at first glance in the revealing membrane of the REFLEX backrest. The transparent backrest and the slim upholstery reflect a clear creative concept.

In the meantime, this office chair, which was already launched by Girsberger in 2007, has proved its worth on the market – thanks also to its high cost-effectiveness – and has become an important pillar of sales for the company. It is available in two sizes and there is a choice of two backrest versions, either transparent or upholstered in fabric or leather. CONNEXION, a cantilever chair which is modelled along the same lines, complements REFLEX as a visitor chair.

All mechanical and otherwise moveable parts of REFLEX, as well as all deep-dyed plastic parts, are maintenance-free. The fabric and leather covers can be cleaned with the usual cleaning and care products. REFLEX is constructed according to internationally accepted safety standards and requirements.
