It might be the final frontier, but it's also close to our hearts. Space. On Architonic, we present a considered edit of the most notable reference projects out there, intelligently cross-linking these with products and profiles to give you the best joined-up briefing possible when it comes to the architecture and design scenes internationally.
And so, as part of our ongoing Architonic Trend Analysis series, we've taken a look at space typologies, creating a top-ten ranking of different types of interior space, calculated by number of page views on architonic.com between 1 January and 30 November 2014.*
Gastronomic spaces perform very well in terms of types of space viewed, coming second and third in our top ten in the form of cafés/bars and restaurants respectively. But occupying pole position are those show-stopping public interior spaces, atriums. (Or atria, depending on how classically minded you are.)Their concomitant space type, entrance halls/foyers, are ranked fourth, making the top five places, with the exception of balconies/logia, all contract spaces. Such a weighting underscores clearly the fact that Architonic is and has always been, first and foremost, a research tool for A&D professionals.
Conversely, the second half of the table features interior-space typologies associated more closely with domestic or private contexts – bathrooms, living areas, bedrooms and kitchens. The cuckoo in the nest here, as it were, are exhibition areas, which come in in ninth place.

* The number of page views is derived from different traffic sources linking to the respective project types, for example navigation from manufacturers' product presentations on Architonic to their reference projects, or navigation within the curated Architecture & Design section of architonic.com, as well as the Google relevance of the project pages themselves.
