A favourite piece to sink into: Lounge chair 808

Things are getting cosy now: Thonet is again launching its annual autumn campaign – this year, from 1 September 2017 until 30 April 2018, each purchase of a lounge chair 808 will include an ottoman 808 H as a gift. For this campaign, two different versions are available: a high-quality nappa leather version and a model covered with a soft merino wool fabric.

With the range 808, Munich based design studio Formstelle has created a lounge chair that combines maximum comfort with numerous possibilities for individualisation. The lounge chair 808 plays with the contrast between a protective shell and an inviting openness, creating a place of retreat and calm.

Its distinctive appearance is created through a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic wing chair – the shape suggests an elegant cocoon that embraces the person sitting in the chair and communicates a feeling of security.

Another striking characteristic is the comfortable upholstery with its welcoming soft wave effect. This inner cushioned core establishes an intriguing contrast with the angularity of the outer shell. A clever mechanism allows users to individually adjust the position of the chair, while a footstool enhances the range.

The swivel frame of the lounge chair 808 is available in a number of different versions (wood with bentwood elements, stainless steel, tubular steel chrome-plated or in various colours). The mechanism hidden inside the chair enables the variable adjustment of multiple seat and backrest inclinations through to a relaxing fully reclined position.

The natural nappa leather offered as part of the autumn campaign is part of the high-quality “Pure Materials” collection and covers the outer shell and the wave-like designed seat cushioning. A very durable, classic loden fabric from the traditional company Steiner 1888 is also available. The finely woven fabric made of 100% merino wool makes the cover very soft and comfortable on the skin. Both versions beautifully emphasise the characteristic casual cushion look of the quilted upholstery. The footstool picks up this design and, like both chair versions, rests on a finely designed, four-star stainless steel base.
