From raw materials right through to disposal. An eco-balance assesses the environmental impact of products throughout their entire life cycle.
Systematic investigations performed on luminaires have shown that their operation has a decisive influence on the eco-balance. Operation provides by far the greatest scope for saving both the environment and costs. 90% of the energy used by a luminaire is consumed during its operation. The proportion of energy accounted for by raw materials, production, transport and recycling is just 10%.
Manual dimming cuts energy consumption by 30% compared with a non-dimmable lighting solution. The brightness of luminaires is adjusted to suit particular activities by using a momentary-action switch.
Power is only used when actually needed. Fitting a presence detector, combined with manual dimming, boosts potential savings by 50%.
Intelligent lighting management with dimmable luminaires and presence detectors as well as daylight sensors taps into the full energy-saving potential of modern lighting systems. They consume up to 70 percent less energy.
Zumtobel's new energy-saving initiative means that everyone is a winner: both the environment and the users. The new dim²save luminaires provide an affordable first step into the world of active lighting management. dim²save luminaires are easy to install and, thanks to standard momentary-action switches or a DIMLITE lighting management system, are real Scrooges when it comes to energy consumption. Luminaires fitted with dim²save components are only slightly more expensive than those with conventional electronic ballasts but have enormous energy saving potential because they are modular and can be enhanced by features such as presence detectors and daylight-based control.
