“I know I’ve succeeded when my work evokes the joy and serenity that being in nature brings.” A visual artist, Andreea creates bespoke porcelain light installations and chandeliers that breathe natural light and energy into manmade interior spaces. Her work is rooted in the beauty and complexity of the natural world, especially the way it creates harmony through apparent randomness. As she says: “Every leaf on a tree is unique, yet together they create a pattern that allows each one to capture the sunlight it needs to flourish and grow.” This is why Andreea consciously erases manufacturing conformity from her work. Every element is imagined, made and placed individually with absolute precision, allowing her to create bespoke pieces that work in perfect, natural synergy with the space and light they inhabit. All Andreea’s designs (both bespoke light installations and chandeliers) are custom-made, in her studio in Bucharest. Here, she collaborates with a close-knit team of highly skilled fellow artists, designers and engineers, who all share her dedication to craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail. Andreea’s chosen medium is fine bone china, an especially translucent phosphatic porcelain. The highest quality ceramic known, this beautifully expressive natural material allows for the most delicate design interpretations yet is extremely durable and long-lasting. Although a notoriously difficult material to work with, Andreea believes phosphatic porcelain’s ability to capture and reflect light with such beautiful softness and warmth is unrivalled. Andreea studied ceramics at the National University of Art & Design in Bucharest, and her unique, emotion-led design ethos was honed over six years of exploring the interplay of light and nature and the restorative effect it has on mood and spirit. Both a light source and an illuminated artwork, each of her installations push the boundaries of organic design way beyond the functional, capturing the essence of living nature.
