FARO has a national reputation in residential projects. Building alongside the noisy city-ring A10 of Amsterdam, a second life for post-war garden cities, compact low-rise projects with high density, inner-city infill, often on suburban locations, but also in villages and rural areas is just a small selection of our work. For the past few years, we are also focussing on schools, offices and utility projects.
FARO's work lies on the border between urban planning and architecture and on the relation between footprint and typology. FARO has built up a strong body of studies into housing-typologies for specific living surroundings. This development and the growth of the office have led to establishing a separate research department within the office for special housing, office buildings, and urban planning tasks.
Sustainability is an important aspect of our work. In 2007 we completed a very sustainable residence on IJburg, Amsterdam which is followed now by a Passive house nearby. Amongst others we are working on a Passive office in an old silo, a project with ten Passive houses and a day care in Almere and Passive houses in Bodegraven en Zevenaar. We will also be starting a sustainable nature tourism park in Gambia.
FARO Architects has 40 people, including four partners.
