FT Architects is a Tokyo-based architectural office founded by Katsuya Fukushima and Hiroko Tominaga in 2003. At FT Architects, we are interested in things that have contradicting 2-sidedness, such as engineering and aesthetics. The world is chaotic and challenging to grasp. However, it is very intriguing to grasp such world. In Japanese, understand means "to dismantle the principle". We carefully dismantle "the world's principle" =stereotype, repair the broken parts and reassemble them. Through this way of careful thinking, we approach towards a new architecture.
Biography
Katsuya Fukushima and Hiroko Tominaga
Both Katsuya Fukushima and Hiroko Tominaga graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 1993 and Katsuya worked for Toyo Ito & Associates and Hiroko worked for Hisao Kohyama Atelier prior to founding their office. They have been involved in numerous projects in Japan and they have won the AIJ Award in 2015 with ‘Timber Structure I and II”. They have taught at number of Japanese Universities and currently Katsuya is an Assistant Professor at Tokyo City University and Hiroko is an Associate Professor at Kogakuin University.
