Lohmeyer, born in 1923 and son of a professor of theology, first studied architecture at the Technische Hochschule in Karlsruhe under Egon Eiermann, then two years later he taught at the Alexandria University in Cairo. As a free-lance architect and furniture designer, he developed furniture for the home in particular for Wilkhahn in the 1950s and 1960s, for example the 400 range, a comfortable chair with a wooden frame that was available with detachable cushions.
