Henning Larsen is one of the most progressive and professional architecture practices in the world. Founded in 1959 we are born out of the Scandinavian Architecture Tradition – aesthetically, socially and intellectually. We create our work based on a firm believe in knowledge, generosity, inspiration and the rethinking of traditions. From this standpoint our architectural ideas and solutions improve everyday life and meet the challenges of tomorrow. Our head office is based in Copenhagen with offices worldwide allowing us to operate globally and act locally.
Biography
Henning Larsen, founder of Henning Larsen Architects
Henning has from the start up until now spearheaded competitions and the construction of important buildings in Denmark as well as abroad. Competitions and the architectural experimentation have formed the basis for the development of Henning Larsen Architects. Founder and for several years in charge of the architecture gallery and periodical SKALA.
Henning Larsen establishes architectural practice with the chapel crematorium in Roskilde, Denmark, as his first project. After graduation from The Royal Academy of fine Arts, School of Architecture, Henning Larsen established architectural practice together with Brüll, Bornebusch and Selchau. In 1959 they agreed to end their collaboration and divided their current projects between them.
Mette Kynne Frandsen, Managin Director
Mette Kynne Frandsen, appointed Managing Director of Henning Larsen Architects in 2003 with general responsibility for administration and finances. Since 1996 part of the management and in 2003 appointed Managing Director. As project manager and project architect Mette has had the responsibility for large-scale building projects from competition to completed building. The projects comprise primarily cultural, educational and commercial buildings in Denmark and Sweden.
Louis Becker, Principal, Partner
Louis Becker, since 1996 part of the management and in 2004 appointed director. Louis is responsible for preparing architectural competition proposals as well as architectural and managerial follow-up on subsequent projecting. The projects comprise large-scale complex buildings, primarily cultural, administrative and commercial buildings as well as masterplans in Denmark, Sweden, United Kingdom, Holland, Spain, and USA. In charge of Henning Larsen Architects lecture activities.
Peer Teglgaard Jeppesen, Partner
Peer Teglgaard Jeppesen, since 2000 part of the management and in 2006 appointed director. Peer is responsible for preparing architectural competition proposals as well as architectural responsible for the implementation phase of selected buildings, including the Opera in Copenhagen and the Reykjavik Concert and Congress Centre. Projects comprise primarily urban area development plans, educational, cultural, administrative and commercial buildings.
Lars Steffensen, Partner
Lars Steffensen, since 2002 part of the management. Lars is responsible for preparing architectural competition proposals as well as architectural and managerial follow-up on subsequent projecting. The projects comprise hospital and laboratory buildings, cultural and educational buildings as well as masterplans in Denmark and Norway. Lars is also Manager of Product Design at Henning Larsen Architects.
Troels Troelsen, Partner
Troels Troelsen, since 2002 part of the management. Troels is responsible for preparing architectural competition proposals, feasibility studies and follow-up on projecting. Troels is responsible for projects in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, United Kingdom, Germany, Holland, Saudi Arabia, and Kenya.
Philosophy
Architecture is the focal point of Henning Larsen Architects. The projects are created on the basis of high ambition, curiosity and a wish to contribute positively to a world in change.
The architecture of Henning Larsen Architects is based on human scale paying strong attention to sustainability and social responsibility.
We are inspired by our colleagues, partners, the site and location, society, science, nature and the company’s own history. This is the background to Henning Larsen Architects being able to hold a leading position in the field of architecture while at the same time maintaining its openness and curiosity in the collaboration with others.
Our designs emanate from a variety of different themes. The themes have manifested themselves in various ways from project to project. Our architectural visions and ideas are continuously developed in accordance with our broad spectrum of assignments ranging in size from single-family houses to concert halls, hospitals and masterplans.
