J. MAYER H. und Partner, Architekten mbB work at the intersection of architecture, communications design and new technologies. The use of interactive media and reactive materials plays a central role in the production of space, be it for installations, urban design or international competitions. Cooperative teams develop and conduct multi-disciplinary spatial research on the relationship between the body, nature and technology.
J. MAYER H. was founded in Berlin in 1996 by Jürgen Mayer H., Andre Santer and Hans Schneider joined as partners in 2014.
Jürgen Mayer H. studied architecture at the University of Stuttgart, The Cooper Union New York and Princeton University, New Jersey. He has received numerous international awards for his work, and was named Designer of the Year in 2020.
His current projects include Zipper, the RKM 740 in Düsseldorf – a high-rise apartment complex with medical facilities – as well as several other projects in and around Berlin: a striking housing project on Berlin’s Pappelallee, a mixed-purpose ensemble of buildings along the grounds of the Berlin Mediaspree and RAW, an IT and innovation campus on the site of a historic old rail yard in Potsdam.
Biography
Jürgen Mayer H. studied at Stuttgart University, The Cooper Union and Princeton University. His work has been published and exhibited worldwide and is part of numerous collections including MoMA New York, SF MoMA, Kunstbibliothek Berlin, State of Berlin Museum Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, Architekturmuseum der TU München as well as numerous private collections. National and international awards include the Mies van der Rohe Award, emerging architect, special mention 2003; Holcim Award, winner Europe bronze 2005 and Audi Urban Future Award, winner 2010, the Red Dot Award best of the best 2013 for Metropol Parasol, numerous A+ Awards and the 2017 AIANY Merit Award for XXX TIMES SQUARE WITH LOVE.
Jürgen Mayer H. has taught at Princeton University, University of the Arts Berlin, Harvard University, Kunsthochschule Berlin, the Architectural Association in London, the Columbia University, New York and at the University of Toronto, Canada. He is member of the advisory boards at Princeton University Architecture School, The Bauhaus Stiftung Dessau, Flussbad Berlin e.V. and Make Shift Architecture Festival Berlin 2015. Juergen Mayer H. has been invited as a visiting critic at numerous institutions around the world, including Harvard University, Princeton University, Cornell University, University of Michigan, UCLA, UIC, T.U. Berlin, ETH Zurich, Rice University, TU Darmstadt, Delft University, Architectural Association and the Royal Academy in London.
