Kevan Shaw BSc(Hons), ELDA, IALD MSLL
Profil
Kevan was born and educated in Edinburgh, Scotland. He graduated from Loughborough University of Technology with a BSc (Hons) in Economic and Technological History and Social Psychology. His career in architectural lighting began as a trainee Building Services Engineer with Max Fordham and Partners working on projects in the Middle East. Following this he worked as a lighting designer for rock bands including Jethro Tull, Ultravox, XTC and Steve Hackett among many others. In 1985 he joined D.H.A. Lighting in London to develop lighting effects equipment. At D.H.A. Kevan’s lighting design work was mainly in Television and Video but he also developed a number of architectural and exhibition lighting schemes the most substantial of which was the creation of an erupting volcano in front of the Mirage Hotel, Las Vegas, using light, flame, water and steam.
Kevan established Kevan Shaw Lighting Design in 1989 and since then has led the design team on numerous substantial and award-winning projects. Kevan is involved with Lighting Education; in addition to giving guest lectures, talks for other design professions and workshop leader for PLDA workshops he is a part-time lecturer for the MSc Lighting Design course at Hochschule Wismar, Germany and for the BDes Interior Architecture course at Napier University, Edinburgh.
Kevan works to develop lighting design through full corporate membership of PLDA (Professional Lighting Designers Association) and IALD (International Association of Lighting Designers).
Kevan retains an active interest in the creation of Light Art and has produced pieces for several exhibitions. He is a keen photographer and was awarded a Licentiateship of the Royal Photographic Society in 1982.
Since April 2008, Kevan has been Director for Sustainability for the Professional Lighting Designers' Association, PLDA.
