DESCUBRE MáS SOBRE MARC WOOD STUDIO
Marc Wood creates luxury lighting collections and showstopping installations handmade in London. With a passion for craftsmanship, Marc collaborates with world class artisans to produce collections using traditional manufacturing techniques redefined for a contemporary audience.
We believe that craftsmanship is valuable and that exquisitely crafted products bring people joy in their day-to-day lives.
We are passionate about championing traditional craftsmanship and believe its beauty and elegance should be cherished.
We are based in London and collaborate with the best crafts people in the world to create products that we hope will stand the test of time.
The strength of our products lies in the partnerships we foster with the artisans who make them. Whether it be glass blowers from the Czech Republic, stonemasons from Portugal or metal engineers from the United Kingdom.
We draw upon the skills developed over centuries by our craftspeople and reframe their processes with our expertise for contemporary design and technology, to produce collections that can be enjoyed by both present and future generations.
Background
Born to an English mother and a Czech father Marc was raised with a diverse cultural background. Growing up between London and Prague has given him an appreciation for both cultures and sparked a passion for travel and exploration.
His family have deep rooted connections with craftsmanship and a legacy in the Czech glass industry. His ancestor Frans Wais, was the brother-in-law and business partner of Daniel Swarovski. Together they created and patented the first electric glass crystal cutting machine that revolutionised the glass industry.
His upbringing has fuelled a passion for heritage craft and given him an understanding of the important role that craft industries play. Inspired by his heritage, glass still remains his primary material and much of it gets produced in the next village on from his grandparents’ farmhouse to this day.
“My work draws on the skills of the best craftspeople I can find. Over the years I have nurtured great connections with our artisans and feel a deep sense of responsibility towards them and the communities that their crafts support”.
“It’s hugely rewarding to work with makers at the top of their game and a thrill to be able to contribute to industries with such rich histories.”
