mode:lina architekci is an architectural studio created by Paweł Garus and Jerzy Woźniak in 2009, when both founders where 4th year students at the architectural studies. Despite their young age mode:lina architekci is a studio with many achievements: throughout the 6 years of its existence the studio was mentioned in over a 100 national and international publications and won various international and national awards.
In 2015 mode:lina architekci was among the finalists of the Życie w Architekturze competition, organized under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Poland, and was awarded the title of the “Favorite of Poland”. That very year mode:lina architekci studio also won the EuroShop RetailDesign Award 2015, the prize awarded during the biggest business fair EuroShop, in China. Paweł Garus and Jerzy Woźniak are listed by the culture.pl website as one of the best Polish architects under the age of 40.
Biography
Paweł Garus
Paweł Garus was born on February 17th, 1985. He’s a graduate of the Architecture and Urban Planning studies at the Architecture and Design Faculty of the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań. In the years 2008-2009, together with Jerzy Woźniak, Paweł took a yearlong break from his studies, to work at the Dutch office of Liong Lie/123DV in Rotterdam. This experience has a strong influence on the style of work of the young architects.
After coming back to Poland the two friends founded their own studio, the mode:lina architekci. Paweł Garus won the Grand Prix in Maria Dokowicz Competition for the best graduation project at the Poznań Academy of Fine Arts in 2011. This initiated a series of awards and distinctions in various architectural competitions. Nowadays Paweł can be seen at marathons (he’s a keen runner). Before he used to play tennis and squash. But naturally his main passion is design.
Jerzy Woźniak
Jerzy was born on November 2nd, 1984. He studied Architecture and Urban Planning at the Architecture and Design Faculty of the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań, and at the ArtEz in Enschede, Netherlands. During his studies he participated in numerous architectural competitions. He received a distinction for the “Fair of the Future” project, at the Poznań International Fair in 2005. Two years in a row (2006 - 2007) he completed summer internships at the IISSAB architectural office in Helsingborg, Sweden.
After a 6 month scholarship in Enschede, together with Paweł he took a yearlong break from his studies, to work at the Dutch office of Liong Lie/123DV in Rotterdam. After coming back to Poland they started working under their own brand. Jerzy is a fan of heavy metal music that he also likes to play on his guitar. Since early childhood he has been skiing. At one time he played squash but now he trains cross-fit… but above all he engages in design.
