Sossego [so-SAY-go] distributes modern Brazilian design and is the exclusive distributor of the award-winning designer Aristeu Pires in the United States.

“Sossego" is Portuguese and is translated as a deep, quiet tranquility. It references harmony of spirit within the self and the world; a sort of pause and placidity. Sossego’s pieces reflect the Brazilian lifestyle of warm, relaxed, and welcomed comfort.

Sossego was formed after a most unexpected and serendipitous meeting in Ann Arbor, Michigan of two native Brazilians: the award-winning furniture designer Aristeu Pires and Jonathan Durling. Although born in the USA, Jonathan has dual USA and Brazilian citizenship, and spent most of his childhood and teenage years in Brazil. The two connected with their mutual appreciation for modern design and Brazilian culture. Jonathan, an artist and businessman in his own right, was overwhelmed with Aristeu's complete oeuvre. Compelled to bring authentic Brazilian design, its warm and modern aesthetic, and the way of life it represents to North America, he soon established Sossego as the exclusive distributor of Aristeu Pires' handcrafted line in the USA with a flagship showroom at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago.
