Studio Snowpuppe - lights to inspire
The story behind Studio Snowpuppe’s lampshades is about the fascination of paper and light. Energy-saving light bulbs have become very popular in Europe but the problem is that the light they give is just not very nice and quite cold so it’s not a light you want in your living environment. Once the light filters through paper it changes and becomes cosy and nice to live with especially in the light-deprived winter months in Middle and Northern Europe. This was the starting point in 2010 for Nellianna and Kenneth, the two designers behind Studio Snowpuppe who experimented with paper diamond shapes and developed the origami paper lampshades.
In 2006 Nellianna studied architecture abroad in Sweden. Travelling around Scandinavia she got inspired by nature’s smooth combination of force and simplicity. Kenneth is the one often asking our team to stop folding lampshades and listen to his new discoveries. The DNA of nature, its ingenious proportions and beauty inspire him to design shapes that instinctively merge in our lives and surroundings.
Since 2010 Studio Snowpuppe is making origami lamps by hand on a small but professional scale. We’re proud to tell you that every lampshade that goes out to a customer, went through our hands first. Thanks to the overwhelming interest for our products worldwide we’re now working with a passionate team straight from our studio in The Hague in The Netherlands.
Studio Snowpuppe develops original, timeless products that bring a smile on people’s face. Inspired by nature, we use elemental shapes and natural materials, mostly paper and wood.
We have a passion for products made entirely or partly by hand, because we think that working with your hands and make things is one of the greatest privileges of a human. People are able to produce such extraordinary things with their hands. These skills combined with creativity makes humans unique.
