DESCUBRE MáS SOBRE WESTEIFEL WERKE
The Westeifel Werke pertaining to “Life Aid” organizations Bitburg, Daun and Prüm, is a non-profit limited liability company which operates a state-recognized workshop for handicapped people according to Code of Social Law IX § 136.
Over 530 mental-, physic- and psychic-disordered people are promoted by means of educational programs not only to develop their personalities but also to provide meaningful employment.
The production plant Weinsheim was designed especially for the production of urban and outdoor furnishings. 6 production halls are divided into different sections for wood and metal machining and processing, wood surface treatment, special constructions and 3 assembly areas.
A high quality product is based on the material pre-selection. Specified product standards are subject to strict quality criteria. Modern production conditions warrant a continual product quality.
As the FSC-pioneer, we have been implementing FSC-certified hardwood for our urban furniture for more than 15 years. Our entire product range is available in FSC-quality. In August 1998 we became the first FSC-certified company in this industrial sector and, moreover, are also an active member of the FSC work group in Germany. Meanwhile, FSC-certified products are in great demand in all sectors and, therefore, are a well-established market factor.
Products of the Westeifel Werke in Gerolstein receive two Red Dot Design Awards
In spite of 4.928 innovative proposals of 1.994 participants coming from 56 countries, two products of the Westeifel Werke have been honoured: The urban furniture Versio Juno and the modular system Campus levis. The renowned and worldwide acknowledged Red Dot Design Award honours products, which are especially innovative.
The most extraordinary thing is that the awarded products are all made by people with a handicap in a workshop especially established for those special workers. Since 1979 the Westeifel Werke has been a manufacturer of urban and garden furniture and is one of the market leaders in Germany. As the first company of its industrial sector with a FSC-certificate, the Westeifel Werke has been standing up for the use of FSC-hardwood since 1998. FSC-hardwood comes from responsible and sustainable forest management. The FSC-certificate is the only worldwide recognised certificate supported by the environmental associations. Therefore, the Westeifel Werke succeeds in connecting a pleasant product design to social and ecological competences. Already in 2009 two products of the Westeifel Werke have received the Red Dot Design Award. The longstanding cooperation between the Westeifel Werke and the design agency Wehberg in Hamburg combines production expertise and design know-how to long-lasting valuable urban furniture despite intensive long-term utilization.
The first Red Dot Design Award is meant for bench model Versio Juno. It has a length of 300 cm, 12 cm wide concrete side-elements, 3 enormous and very massive FSC-certificated hard wooden beams with a size of 240 x 120 mm and a weight of 297 kg. Versio Juno can be considered as a statement in all public spaces. This bench model is available in four different sizes with three different pads in large, medium and small.
The second Red Dot Design Award is meant for the modular system Campus levis. The modules of bench system Campus fulfil all outdoor seating requirements and may be combined with variable side- or lengthways extensions to form logically connected communication areas. Since all functions are fully interoperable, diversified seating standing and lounging areas, harmonising with the natural environment, can be arranged. Extensions or rearrangements are technically feasible at any time. Due to the standardisation of these products it’s possible to create individual design ideas of furnishing public spaces in a cost-effective way. The sub-constructions are each made of one single flat steel with a cross-section of 9 x 1,2 cm and the wooden seat slats with a cross-section of 19,2 x 5,5 cm are made of untreated FSC-hardwood and especially robust and indifferent to damages and high strain.
Both modular systems are suitable for furnishing all public spaces.
