The interior of the restaurant Esskapade was supposed to be altered sustainably by implementing an excellent and extraordinary lighting concept. The lighting design was aimed at creating a cosy atmosphere that invites guests to stay and to enjoy food and wine. The already existing interior design and the color scheme should not be changed, an excellent task to demonstrate what the „right“ light can do.
So called „pictures of light“ create a soft ambient light and are the basis of this concept. Either square or rectangular wall panels, powder coated white, are fitted with elements from the benwirth licht *Track system. These light-weight elements made of circuit board material are simply held by magnets. Some panels are additionally illuminated by a little LED globes, which throw colored light reflections (blue, red or orange) on the white background. The 230 V wall outlets had to be transformed into 24 V continuous current by converters.
The bar in the front room is illuminated by a number of LEDed B. pendant lamps hanging from the ceiling in different heights. The hand-blown glass bulbs are clear or frosted, the LED with a little reflector (for glare protection) is invisibly hidden in the socket and evenly illuminates the bar's counter. Two LEDed B.s are endowed with an additional accessory, a frosted plate, which gives the minimalistic pendant lamps a somewhat traditional touch (Shade 'n Bulb).
Many details and some objects have come to life spontaneously during the implementation, such as the small wall lamps made of backlit circuit board material (again taken from the *Track system). The delicate lights seem to „grow“ out of the wall like flowers. The wall outlets remain visible, the holes have purposely not been touched.
The Esskapade's backroom is illuminated by a very unique piece. Schi-Wago is a modern interpretation of a chandelier, and owes its name to the numerous WAGO terminals that were used non only as a design element but also as a technical necessity. Schi-Wago is a customized and fully hand-made object, designed and built for the restaurant. Once again the central illuminating elements are so called backlit „octagons“ taken from the *Track system.
The pictures in the front- and the backroom are beautifully illuminated by the rotatable spotlight Cluster Turnover mounted to the ceilings.
