The Team Bank headquarters in Nuremberg, Germany is a new trendsetting workplace for over 700 employees that was designed ‘from the inside out’: The communicative character of the interior design has a direct impact on the new building’s external appearance.
In order to increase the communication and exchange among the employees, the new building was designed with as few floors as possible. Besides, the floor plans had to be ‘fluid’ to encourage people to move around and to stimulate spontaneous meetings and collaborations.
To support the new activity-based working, the building was divided in two main functions: homebases and meet & create zones. Homebases occupy the outer ring of the building and consist of a unique mixture of different workplace typologies to cater for the different needs of the employees depending on their daily activities. There are single work desks in Quiet Boxes for concentration, ‘gardens’ for working in a green environment, semi-enclosed library-style desks for focus work, work benches for team collaborations and touchdown desks for guests or employees who spend very little time at the desk.
Introducing a share rate of 75% allowed for gaining extra space for the meet & create zones located at the inner ring of the building. These areas are the driver for creativity and innovation and consist of a large number of informal areas and specially designed spaces for creativity and focus.
Another very important part is the identity and branding concept. The company’s culture and vision is alive throughout the building: whether in its open and non-hierarchical spatial organization or in the bold placement of mission statements on the bannisters of the lobby atrium.
The result is a building that reflects the extraordinary company spirit and enables employees to identify strongly with their new workplace.
